Ramesh Chennithala to be Leader of the Opposition officially

Sunday, Former Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president and former Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala was elected Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader. Mr. Chennithala will officially convert Leader of the Opposition in the House under the United Democratic Front (UDF).

All India Congress Committee representative Sheila Dikshit announced Mr. Chennithala leader of the opposition by at the end of a five-hour exercise that involved one-to-one meetings with each of the 22 Congress legislators

Afterwards, Ms. Dikshit, who was supported by AICC general secretary Mukul Wasnik and secretary Deepak Babria, took a decision to meet the legislators separately. Soon after this exercise, the CLP was formally assembled.

The meeting passed a resolution seeking AICC president Sonia Gandhi’s approval. Mr. Chennithala’s name was formally proposed by former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and seconded by Adoor Prakash, V.T. Balaram, and V.D. Satheeshan.
