Thiruvananthapuram:: The Kerala government has announced two days of holiday Friday, and Saturday ( April 21, 22) on the eve of Eid ul Fitr (Ramzan). The crescent or new moon was not reflected anywhere in the state on Thursday there Eid ul Fitr is not celebrated on Friday.

"Since the Id-ul-is celebrated in the state on 22nd April 2023, Government are pleased to order that Saturday, the 22nd April, 2023 will also be a holiday for all Government offices in Kerala including all Public Sector Undertakings, educational institutions, including professional colleges,  and institutions coming under purview of Negotiable Instruments Act-1881," as per issued by general administration department kerala.

The completion of Ramadan and the start of Shawwal, the tenth month in the Islamic calendar, are marked by Eid ul Fitr. Since the moon's observation is necessary for concluding Ramadan and celebrating Eid, it is observed in different regions on various days, typically with a one-day variation.

Lunar months are either 29 or 30 days long, hence Muslims generally have to wait until the night before Eid to confirm its date. For countries that began Ramadan on March 24, local moon sighters will scan the horizon after sunset on April 21, to search for the crescent moon.
