Dhubri-Assam: A local court in Dhubri sentenced a man to life in jail on Wednesday for raping a young relative of his own.
In August 2021, Atul Biswas sexually assaulted an 11-year-old girl in Assam at Ramnathpara, which is part of the Tamarhat police station. The victim was also a relative of his.

P Kataki, Additional Sessions Judge and Special Judge under POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act), Dhubri, passed the order.

"Before passing judgment, we should note that despite the fact that not all sexual assaults on female children are registered or made public, there has been an alarming and startling rise in the number of sexual offenses against minors. This is because young children are unaware of the act of rape, are powerless to resist, and are thus easy prey for lustful brutes who practise the dishonest, deceptive, and sinister art of seducing female children and young girls. Therefore, such criminals who pose a threat to civilised society should face the harshest penalties possible, "declared the Special Judge's directive (POCSO).

Accordingly, the Special Judge (POCSO) further stated in the judgment, "Convict Atul Biswas is sentenced to endure rigorous imprisonment for life and a fine of Rs 1 lakh, in default another harsh imprisonment for one year under Section 6 of the POCSO Act."

In accordance with sections 376-AB of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 6 of the POCSO Act, the complaint was initially filed at the Tamarhat police station, according to Uttam Kumar Sarkar, the Special Public Prosecutor.
"On August 31, 2021, Atul Biswas sexually assaulted a young girl who was 11 years old. The accused is the victim girl's uncle. The accused person offered the victim girl Rs. 100 and a packet of chips when she started crying. She later told her mother about the experience. A case was opened when the mother of the victim girl filed a FIR at the Tamarhat police station against Atul Biswas "said Uttam Kumar Sarkar.

The Special Judge (POCSO), according to Uttam Kumar Sarkar, sentenced Atul Biswas to life in jail and fined him Rs. 1 lakh; in default another rigorous imprisonment for one year.
