Sambhal- Uttar Pradesh: In a bizarre incident, a 7-year-old girl was locked up in a school in Sabhal district, Uttar Pradesh for more than 18 hours after the staff went home without checking if any child was left behind.
The incident finally came to light on Wednesday when school started.

The primary school student in Class 1 at Dhanari Patti in the Gunnaur tehsil was left behind on Tuesday after school hours, said Block Education Officer (BEO) Pope Singh.

When the school opened this morning, she was found. The girl is "fine", said the Block Education Officer.

The girl's maternal uncle said, the personnel at the school informed the girl's grandmother that there were no more students thereafter she didn't come home after school on Tuesday.

The family searched for her in the forest area but she was not found anywhere. It was found that the girl had been trapped in the classroom all night when the school reopened on Wednesday.

The BEO said that teachers and other staff members did not check the rooms after school hours had ended.
Action would be taken against the entire staff since it is a case of negligence, he said.
