Vijayawada: The rare civet cat, mostly seen in the Seshachalam forest, was spotted in Vijayawada. Which was seen roaming on the trees in Brundavan Colony of Vijayawada for the last three days. However, on Tuesday night Cat A broke into a house near the convention center, locked the door, grabbed the cat and locked it in the cage. This rare cat which is commonly found in the forests of Tirumala Seshachalam.
As soon as the information was received, the forest officials reached the spot and took measures to release the cat in the forest. Forest officials said the cat had come to the city in search of food as it could not be found in the forests due to rain.
The small Indian civet has a coarse fur that ranges from grayish brown to pale yellowish brown, usually with several longitudinal black or brown bands on the back and longitudinal rows of spots on the sides. There are usually two dark stripes running from behind the ears to the shoulders. Its underparts are brown or gray, often gray on the upper part of the body and brown on the underside. Its tail consists of alternating black and white rings, seven to nine of each colour. It is 38–43 cm (15–17 in) long, with a slender tail 53–58 cm (21–23 in) long from head to body.
