New Delhi: Former India head coach Ravi Shastri believes that Virat Kohli has taken a wise decision by leaving the captaincy of all formats of cricket. Shastri, who knew and understood Kohli's leadership skills closely during his tenure as the head coach of the Indian cricket team, however feels that Virat could have remained the captain in Test cricket. Shastri said that, 'To be honest, I think that the decision to quit the captaincy can be indirectly beneficial. The pressure of captaincy has taken off from his shoulders.

Shastri further said that, 'The expectations that are made from the captain will no longer be on Kohli's shoulders. Now he can express himself well, can play freely and I think he would like to do that too. Shastri said that, 'I believe he took a wise decision to leave the captaincy. I would have liked if Kohli had remained the captain of India's Test team, but that is a personal opinion. Let us tell you that after IPL 2021, Kohli surprised everyone by leaving the captaincy of Royal Challengers Bangalore.

After this, he also gave up the captaincy of the Test team after Team India's 1-2 defeat in the South Africa tour, before that he resigned from the captaincy of the T20 team after the World Cup last year in September itself. After which the Cricket Board of India (BCCI) removed him from the captaincy of the ODI team. Shastri said that, 'I think the most important thing is not to worry about his performance, because he has done enough work to prove himself in world cricket.'
