Police found something in a plastic bag near a football field in Sikander village of Birbhum district of West Bengal on Sunday that was shocking. A bomb squad team of the Central Investigation Department (CID) rushed to the spot to defuse these bombs. The recovery of the bombs comes at a time when the Central Bureau of Investigation is in Bogtui village to investigate the violence in which eight people, including two children, have lost their lives by burning them.
Following the Birbhum violence, the West Bengal Police has intensified the search operation to recover arms and ammunition from across the state. In the operation to seize arms and ammunition, eight live bombs, three firearms have been seized from Jagdal, Bijpur and Bhatpara areas.
The latest reports say that at present, the CBI team is present at the site of arson. The team has collected samples of the charred debris. The Calcutta High Court on Friday handed over the case to the Central Investigation Team. The Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) had also collected samples in the violence-hit village of Rampurhat town. We are going to speak to a woman and three others who were injured in the violence and are now being treated in a hospital, a CBI official said.
