Hyperhidrosis is the medical term for excessive sweating. Hyperhidrosis most commonly affects children, teenagers, and young adults. Increased sweating may be triggered by certain things such as anxiety, spicy foods, cola drinks, exercise, warm air temperature, and fever. You may or may not be able to identify a specific trigger in your child.

Causes of hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis is caused by sweat glands that are too active. Generalized hyperhidrosis is most often caused by a medical condition such as:

  • An infection
  • A chronic disease
  • A disorder that disrupts the body's natural balance of hormones
  • Treatments for hyperhidrosis

Topical treatments

Topical treatments are medicines that are put on the skin. Topical treatments for hyperhidrosis include antiperspirants and topical anticholinergic medicines.

Oral medicines

Sometimes, doctors recommend oral anticholinergic medicines to reduce sweating. However, there are some side effects of oral medication, which can include:

  • Dry mouth
  • constipation
  • increased heart rate
  • urinary problems
  • blurry vision

Preventing Hyperhidrosis In Toddlers

Regulate fluid intake. There is a possibility that the toddler drinks too many fluids making him prone to sweat excessively. Avoid aerated drinks or drinks containing caffeine.

 Use light clothing especially in a hot weather. Cotton clothing is considered to     be more useful.

Ensure that your child takes bath twice a day. This helps naturally cool down the body and also prevents mixture of sweat with dirt and bacteria which can lead to body odor.
