India's growing dominance in the world, we are selling arms to 85 countries, defense exports are at a 75-year high

New Delhi: India's stature at the international level is increasing day by day. India, once dependent on other countries for arms and defence equipment, is today selling indigenous weapons to 85 countries. In fact, India's defence exports have reached a record level of Rs 15,920 crore in the financial year 2022–23. Narendra Modi has congratulated the Ministry of Defence for this achievement. The Prime Minister said that defence exports reaching a record level shows that the reforms in this sector in the last few years are yielding good results. He tweeted that the central government will continue to support efforts to make India a defence production hub.

Responding to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's tweet, the Prime Minister wrote, 'Great! This clearly shows India's ingenuity and enthusiasm towards 'Make in India'. This also shows that the reforms undertaken in the defence sector in the last few years are yielding spectacular results. Our government will continue to support efforts to make India a defence production hub. According to the report, earlier Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had said that the country's defence exports reached Rs 15,920 crore in the financial year 2022–23, which is the highest figure ever. He characterised this growth as a commendable achievement. According to official figures, the country's defence exports in 2021–22 stood at Rs 12,814 crore.

How much defence exports year-by-year:

The Defense Minister said that under the inspirational leadership of PM Modi, our defense exports are growing rapidly and will continue to grow further. Giving figures, he said that India exported military hardware worth Rs 8,434 crore in 2020–21, Rs 9,115 crore in 2019–20, and Rs 10,745 crore in 2018–19. At the same time, the country's total defence exports were recorded at Rs 4,682 crore in 2017–18 and Rs 1,521 crore in 2016–17. Along with this, he said that the Government of India has set a target of taking defence exports to Rs 35,000 crore by 2024–25 with the production of defence hardware worth Rs 1,75,000 crore.

Let us inform you that, in the last few years, the government of India has taken many effective steps to promote domestic defence production. India is currently supplying military hardware, including missiles, advanced light helicopters (ALH), offshore patrol vessels, personal protective gear, surveillance systems, and various types of radars, to around 85 countries. Weapons and systems with export potential include the fighter jet Tejas, various types of helicopters, artillery guns, Astra beyond-visual-range air-to-air missiles, Akash surface-to-air missile systems, tanks, and radars.
