Due to Corona crisis, there has been a huge reduction in the number of vehicles at Shambhu toll plaza. Only six out of 14 lines of toll are being used. Most vehicles are travelling in the morning and at night. Things are normal during the day, but there is a long queue at night. The toll plaza, where 45 to 50 thousand vehicles passed daily, now about 14 to 15 thousand vehicles are passing.

Due to the decrease in the number of vehicles, only 10 of the 16 employees working at the counter are being called in shifts. Two emergency lines are opened. The National Highway Authority of India has kept two lines on each side active, giving relief to those who are in hurry. When the number of vehicles is high, their number is reduced to three, while the cash payment is being done on only one line.

Varun Sharma, manager of Shambhu Toll Plaza, said that no employees working on toll collection were fired. They are called in shifts. In view of the acute shortage of vehicles, employees are being called alternatively. Also, in the same season last year, about 50 thousand vehicles used to pass daily, but this time the number has been reduced to only 15 thousand. Tourists are also not leaving for fear of lockdown and disease. There has also been a decrease in vehicles due to the closure of the school. Sumit Kumar, who went from his vehicle from Rajpura to Lucknow, told that he has taken a new vehicle, so has not yet installed Fastag. He had to stop for more than twenty minutes due to the long line. The driver Surinder Singh said that on Wednesday afternoon when he got out of the toll plaza towards Punjab, there were hardly 10-12 vehicles in the cash line. Due to the increasing heat, people are travelling at night.
