Sweet Home Alabama, a smashing blockbuster from 2002, turns 20 this year, and Reese Witherspoon is celebrating. The Academy Award-winning actress marked the 20th anniversary of her favourite movie by posting on Instagram. For many years, the timeless rom-com topped the charts and enjoyed enduring popularity.
When Witherspoon released a sample of the movie's best scenes as a video on Instagram on Saturday, she entered a world of fond memories. Witherspoon revealed in the commentary that the arrival of the film marked a significant turning point in her life. "20 years ago Sweet Home Alabama came out and completely changed my life." The Legally Blonde actress then continued, "Incredible memories of shooting this movie with these amazing actors—Josh, Patrick, Dakota, Melanie, Jean, Ethan, Mary Kay, Fred, and Candace, of course!"
Recounting her favourite memories from the film, Witherspoon said, "So many great scenes and my favourite line...'So I can kiss you anytime I want.'" The actress went on to ask her followers, "Do you remember seeing it for the first time?" Many in her comment section took their time to appreciate the film and its blissful brilliance as they commented, "BEST MOVIE EVER," while some others said, "Feels like yesterday."
There has been a great deal of interest in the potential of a sequel to the cult classic movie, but it doesn't appear likely. Josh Lucas, who plays the movie's lead, revealed in a prior interview, "Look, I would love to do the sequel. The issue is Reese’s got a book club. I’m saying that like laughingly, but… I’ve heard like, ‘Oh, you can talk to her about stuff five years from now.’ You know, she’s a mogul," per ET Canada.
