Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, also Chattopadhyay,  was an Indian writer, poet, and journalist. He was born on June 27, 1838 and departed on April 8, 1894. He is best known for composing India’s national song, Vande Mataram.

In his lifetime, he wrote numerous critical, satirical, scientific, and serio-comic works in addition to 13 Bengali novels. In Bengali, he was also referred to as Sahitya Samrat. Rabindranath Tagore, Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, and Surendranath Dutt are reported to have influenced him.

On his 129 th death anniversary on April 8, 2023, here is a look at some features about his life:

In Naihati, West Bengal, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay was born into a traditional Bengali Brahmin family. At the age of eleven, he got married.

In his writings, Chattopadhyay significantly contributed to the literary Renaissance movement.

He earned a law degree and was chosen to serve as Jessore's deputy collector in 1858. In 1891, he left the army.

-Vande Mataram was written by the eminent author on November 7, 1875. His political book, Anandamath, also has Vande Mataram lines. In 1882, the book was released. The Sanyasi army's conflict with the British soldiers was the main focus. Nobel Prize winner Rabindranath Tagore later provided the tune for Vande Mataram.

He was among the University of Calcutta's earliest graduates.

In April 1972, Chattopadhyay launched the Bangadarshan literary magazine. Among other things, it contained amusing sketches and stories.

He is primarily known for his compositions Devi Chaudhurani, Rajsimha, Ananda Math, Radharani, Krishnakanter Uil, and Kapalkundala. His first two significant works, Durgeshnandini and Kapalkundala, were so highly appreciated that they were translated into other languages.

His initial writings were featured in the Sangbad Prabhakar, a weekly publication.

His debut book in Bengali was titled Durgeshnondini, while his debut book in English was titled Rajmohan's Wife.
