Mahendra Kapoor always expressed his deep admiration for Mohammad Rafi. His breakthrough in the music industry came when he sang Rafi Saab’s non-film song ‘Ilaihi Koi Tamanna Nahin’ for a music competition. This marked his entry into Bollywood, where he finally met his role model. Though they officially collaborated on just one song in the film Aadmi, Kapoor eagerly sought opportunities to work with Rafi Saab. Sources reveal his participation in Rafi's musical show in Kolkata, where he sang in the chorus. Kapoor openly acknowledged Rafi's influence on him, regarding him as the greatest singer ever born. Rafi Saab, in return, admired Kapoor's songs. Despite their shared profession, they saw each other not as rivals but as artists who appreciated each other's talent.
