Raghuvaran Velayutham (11 December 1958 – 19 March 2008) was an Indian actor who predominantly acted in films made in South India. He has acted in more than 200 Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi films. The actor had carved a niche for himself with his special style and voice modulation.
Raghuvaran was pitted against Dilip Kumar in his Bollywood debut Izzatdaar and his popularity further soared at the national level with Ram Gopal Varma' s gangster flick Shiva, where he played the dreaded gangster Bhawani.
Other Bollywood films include Rakshak opposite Sunil Shetty (1996), Lal Baadshah opposite Amitabh Bachchan (1999), Hitler opposite Mithun Chakraborty (1998) and Grahan along with Jackie Shroff, where he replaced a busy Nana Patekar in 2001
The stardom of South Cinema superstar Rajinikanth is such that his movies used to run in name only. People eagerly wait for the release of his movies and even used to bathe the poster with milk. But there was also a star whose status remained the same as that of Rajinikanth. Rajinikanth used to consider this star as his lucky charm and kept a role for him in almost every one of his films. And this artist was none other than Raghuvaran.
Raghuvaran's painful death on Charm in 2008: Raghuvaran's style was such that he used to overshadow the lead hero in the movie. Along with South films, Raghuvaran won everyone's heart by acting in many Hindi movies as well, but Raghuvaran left this world on March 19, 2008. At the time of his death, the shooting of many of his movies was going on, which remained incomplete. Those movies were shot with other actors after Raghuvaran's death.
