Syed Muhammad Bashir, the acclaimed Indian poet born on 15 February 1935 .
Syed Muhammad Bashir was teaching Urdu in Aligarh Muslim University. His writing is mostly in Urdu, and his specialty is ghazals. He also composed a couplet about the division of India in 1972, titled Dushmani Jam Kar Karo, during the Shimla Agreement.
The sectarian violence in Meerut in 1987 resulted in the loss of the majority of Badr's unpublished literary work, including questionable poetry. He eventually relocated to Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
Syed Muhammad Bashirwas born in United Provinces of British India (in modern-day [Faizabad now Ayodhya], Uttar Pradesh, India) on 15 February 1935.
After finishing his elementary education, he enrolled at Aligarh Muslim University, where he earned his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in arts. Later, he worked as a lecturer at the same college. Additionally, he worked for more than seventeen years at Meerut College. He relocated permanently to Bhopal after the 1987 Meerut riots caused damage to his home and books.
He began writing poetry when he was seven years old. He composed several collections of ghazals, including Ikai, Kulliyate Bashir Badr, Aamad, Image, and Aahat, as well as Ujale Apni Yadon Ke in Devanagari script.
In the course of his career, he published two volumes on literary criticism, Biswin Sadi Mein Ghazal (Ghazals in the 20th century) and Azadi Ke Bad Urdu Ghazals Ka Tanqidi Mutala (Critical study of Urdu ghazal after independence). He has also held the position of chairman at the Bihar Urdu Academy.
