Republican Rivals Turn Allies: Haley and DeSantis Back Trump

Donald Trump has secured strong endorsements from his former opponents during the Republican National Convention (RNC), showcasing a united front days after narrowly surviving an assassination attempt.

On Tuesday, the second day of the convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis praised Trump and called on Republicans to unite to defeat President Joe Biden in the upcoming November election.

Nikki Haley, who once criticized Trump as unelectable and unqualified, emphasized the importance of supporting Trump for the nation's sake, highlighting Biden’s foreign policy and immigration issues.

“You don’t have to agree with Trump 100 percent of the time to vote for him,” Haley told the delegates. “I haven’t always agreed with President Trump, but we agree more often than we disagree.”

Haley stressed the importance of unity, saying that the country’s enemies benefit from division. “No president can fix all our problems alone. We have to do this together. America has an amazing ability to self-correct,” she said. “In this moment, we have a chance to put aside our differences and focus on what unites us and strengthens our country.”

Governor Ron DeSantis, who finished third in the primaries, took a more aggressive stance. He raised concerns about Biden’s mental fitness and urged Republicans to send Biden “back to the basement.”

“As a citizen, husband, and father, I am alarmed that the current president lacks the capability to discharge the duties of his office. Our enemies do not confine their designs to between 10 am and 4 pm,” DeSantis said. “We need a commander in chief who can lead 24 hours a day, seven days a week. America cannot afford four more years of a ‘Weekend at Bernie’s’ presidency,” he added, referencing the 1989 comedy film.

DeSantis concluded that Trump deserves the support of Republicans after enduring numerous challenges, including being demonized, sued, prosecuted, and nearly killed.
