In an attempt to lower the cost of charging electric vehicles, researchers from many IITs have developed a new technology that charges these vehicles for around half the price of current on-board charger technology. IIT (BHU), Varanasi, has already completed lab-scale development in cooperation with experts from IIT Guwahati and IIT Bhubaneshwar.

One of the country's biggest electric car manufacturers has expressed interest in the new technology and plans to produce a full-fledged commercial product based on it. After that, the fully functional technology may be used to the EV manufacturer's existing electric vehicles. The technology is currently being upgraded, and commercialization is on schedule.

"The rising cost of fuel in the country is causing concern among the public at large. Electric vehicles (EVs) are the ideal alternative to traditional IC engines as the cost of petroleum products rises and pollution levels rise "IIT BHU's Chief Project Investigator, Rajeev Kumar Singh, told the media.
