New Delhi: Scientists in the Andes Mountains of South America have discovered a place nine thousand years old where female predators were buried. This discovery challenges the long-standing concept that it was said that when primitive humans needed food, men went on hunting and women used to collect food.
"An archaeological discovery and analysis of the burial process in antiquity defy the concept of men being hunters," said Randy Haas, an American University of California, Davis and lead author of the study. Researchers believe that the findings published in 'Science Advances' have come at a time when there is a debate on gender-based labour. Haas stated, 'In recent hunting communities there is a strong emphasis on gender-based labour, leading some to believe that gender-based inequality is natural.'
He said, 'Now it is clear that the gender-based division of labour was different in its original form. This was probably even more justified in the hunter history of our species. During an archaeological excavation at an altitude in Peru in 2018, researchers discovered an old burial site, which found sharp tools for hunting and cutting animals.' A study of the bones and teeth of the skeleton found at the site showed that it was possibly a skeleton of a female.
