Srinagar: Kashmir will connect with the whole of India through the railway network by December next year, as the central government has set a new deadline to complete the world's largest railway bridge. The height of this railway line is expected to be 35 meters higher than the Eiffel Tower. The Eiffel Tower is 273 meters high. Konkan Railway has said that this project was one of the most challenging tasks after the independent history of Indian Railways.

Konkan Railway Chairman Sanjay Gupta has said, 'This is the most challenging task in the long history of 150 years of Railways. The work of connecting the world's highest railway bridge to the rest of Kashmir by rail will be completed by December 2021. Gupta further said that, "The construction of the bridge is the most challenging part of the post-independence Kashmir rail link project and once completed it will prove to be an engineering marvel."

He said that 5,462 tonnes of steel have been used in the construction of this large-scale crescent shaped structure, which will be 359 meters above the river bed. This bridge is able to withstand winds of up to 260 km per hour. This 1.315 km long bridge over the Chenab river in Jammu and Kashmir will work to connect Bakkal (Katra) and Kauri (Srinagar). The bridge will connect an area of 111 km between Katra and Banihal, which is part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link project.
