Richa Chadha will be next seen playing the sensational actress Shakeela in a biopic. The biopic, which is currently being planned, will be based on the life of the Malayalam actress.

The project will be helmed by director Indrajeeth Lankesh, brother of late journalist Gauri Lankesh who was shot dead last year.

Shakeela was a famous actress in the Malayalam film industry. In the 90s, she was the top star in the adult film industry. She also acted in mainstream films with stars like Vijay and Arya.

Richa Chadha’s spokesperson revealed details about the actress’ next project to the media.

“The film is the story of Shakeela, one of the most famous actors from Malayalam cinema from the 90s who rose to a spectacular amount of fame. Her fans were spread across Asia and she earned fanfare as a woman which back then was unheard of. The film's script was exciting and is a great story to tell which will make for a great watch for the audience. The preparations will begin soon and the film should be going on floors in April or May,” said the spokesperson.

This is not the first movie based on the life of B-Grade film star. 2011 film Dirty Picture starring Vidya Balan was also based on the life of a popular south actress Silk Smitha. It bagged three national awards and became a hit at the box office.
