Former Chairman of Tata Sons who took over Ratan Tata after Tata reached 75, but was later deposed in a contentious legal struggle, died in a car accident on Sunday in Palghar, Maharashtra. According to police, he was driving his Mercedes from Ahmedabad to Mumbai when it collided with a divider. Along with the driver of the vehicle, two other passengers were hurt. The injured people have all been transported to a Gujarati hospital.

Soon after his sudden passing, social media flooded with condolences, including that of Priminister Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi, Shashi Tharoor, Anand Mahindra, and many more. 

While expressing his shock, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said, "he was a promising business leader who believed in India's economic prowess".

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde called the accident "a great loss not only to the Mistry family but also to the industrial world of the country"
