Former UK PM Rishi Sunak tours India with family, visits Parliament and meets PM Narendra Modi

Former Prime Minister of United Kingdom, and son in law of Infosys founder Narayan Murty and Rajya Sabha MP and author Sudha Murty, Rishi Sunak is currently in India along with his wife and two daughters. The ex PM is enjoying his stay in India, making the most out of the time. From travelling to the Taj Mahal and then accompanying his mother in law to the Parliament, and yesterday meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it seems like a complete family holiday time.

On Tuesday, Rishi Sunak met Narendra Modi, while accompanied by his wife Akshata Murty, two daughters and mother in law. Taking to X, Narendra Modi posted, “It was a delight to meet former PM Rishi Sunak and his family! We had a wonderful conversation on many subjects. Mr. Sunak is a great friend of India and is passionate about even stronger India-UK ties.”

In the morning, the family headed to the Parliament, visiting the complex and admiring the architecture including the galleries, chambers, Constitution Hall, and Samvidhan Sadan. They were welcomed by Secretary General Lok Sabha, Shri Utpal Kumar Singh. The Secretary General of Rajya Sabha Shri PC Modi was also present. A statement released by the Indian Government said that the visit is a part of Sunak’s recent engagements in India.

Prior to this, Sunak family had visited historical sites the Taj Mahal and Fatehpur Sikri. He even greeted the onlookers at Fatehpur Sikri who were waving at him. The couple also signed the visitors book at the Taj Mahal, in which Rishi Sunak wrote, “A truly breathtaking visit. Few places in the world can unit like the Taj Mahal. Our children will never forget seeing this…We are so grateful to the warm hospitality. An unforgettable experience for our whole family. Thank you.”

Sunak, who is a huge cricket fan had attended the fifth T20 match, final of the series between India and England at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai along with his father in law Narayan Murty on February 2. He had even participated in a tennis ball cricket match, about which he wrote on X, “No trip to Mumbai will be complete without a ball of cricket.”

After England’s loss, Sunak had posted, “Tough day for England at the Wankhede but I know our team will come back stronger. Congratulations to Team India on the win. Despite the result, it was an honor to meet @josbuttler and @surya_14kumar before the match and a pleasure to watch cricket with my father in law.”
