Karan Johar's last full-length feature film was released in 2016. Since Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, the director has only directed a couple of short films for various anthologies. He was working on his dream project Takht, but owing to Covid limitations, he had to abandon it. Despite the constraints, he moved on with Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which is planned to hit theatres on July 28th, 2023.

Rocky & Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is the ace director's first full-length feature film in almost 7 years. Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Dharmendra Deol, Jaya Bachchan, and Shabana Azmi feature in the film. The first teaser for the film was released on June 20, 2023, and it was warmly received by the trade and public alike. The teaser song, named 'Tum Jo Mile,' has already acquired a lot of interest on social media and may become another chartbuster from Dharma Productions. The film's other assets will be released in due order, all of which will help the prospects of this family drama even more.

It's interesting to note that Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is Karan Johar's first full-length film shot entirely in India. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was shot in Scotland and Mauritious, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham in the United Kingdom and Egypt, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna and My Name Is Khan in the United States, Student Of The Year in Bangkok, and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil in the United Kingdom. Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani was totally shot in India by Karan Johar. The film was shot in Mumbai, Delhi, Unchagaon, Kashmir, and Jaisalmer. Apart from his short films in anthologies, no other of his films had been shot fully in India prior to Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.

Karan Johar will direct his first action film after Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani. He has not placed his most ambitious project Takht on hold, and he will offer an update on the timetable of the Mughal love story, perhaps very soon. While Ranveer Singh hasn't announced any of his upcoming projects, he will appear in Rohit Shetty's Singham Again. Alia Bhatt will star in Heart Of Stone, which will be released on Netflix on August 11, 2023.
