New Delhi: The BCCI, the world's richest cricket board, has got a new president. Former cricketer Roger Binny was on Tuesday (October 18) appointed as the new BCCI president in place of Sourav Ganguly. Roger Binny was part of the 1983 World Cup-winning Team India. Not only this, Binny was the highest wicket-taker in that tournament. Now he will be seen in a new role.

With this, the BCCI has made it clear that it will support the current International Cricket Council (ICC) president Greg Barclay and will not push Sourav Ganguly's name for the post. In fact, the office-bearers have been empowered to decide on this to choose the BCCI representative in the ICC and CEC in the AGM. Roger Binny's election as BCCI chief was already scheduled as no other candidate had filed for nomination for the post. There was also a discussion in the AGM about who would be the two representatives of the BCCI in the ICC. Jay Shah is expected to be BCCI's representative in ICC board meetings.

Now the BCCI has made it clear that it will not send anyone for the ICC chairmanship and will give a second term to New Zealand's Greg Barclay. Earlier on Monday, October 17, 2022, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said that she would urge PM Narendra Modi to allow the country's former cricketer to contest for the post of ICC president.
