A group of 112 Rohingya’s has been arrested while attempting to escape from the refugee camps without proper paperwork from Myanmar and has been sentenced to prison by the military backed court.

In this group, there were 12 kids also who were arrested last month (December) on the shores of Ayeyarwady region as they were waiting for the motorboats that will help them to reach Malaysia through the waters.

They were arrested in the southeastern township of Bogale, as per the local media. In which 35 people have been handed a serving time of five-year in jail and 13 under-age kids have also been detained and sent to “training school” until they turn 20. Sentences have been ranged from two to five years relying upon the data stating whether they have left camps in Bangladesh or Rakhine.

As per the reports they were identified as ‘Bengalis’ using a pejorative word for the Muslim minority who were denied of citizenship in Buddhist-majority Myanmar and they often require permission to travel.

The latest Myanmar junta’s jailing of Rohingya is a reminder to the world that the architects of the Rohingya genocide remain in power in Myanmar,” Sullivan said. Myanmar has been facing allegations of genocide from the United Nation top court following a mass exodus. This is making thousands of Rohingya’s risk their lives and run away from the camps in Bangladesh and Myanmar to arrive in Muslim-majority countries like Malaysia and Indonesia.

As per the UNHCR (UN refugee agency) report more than 2000 Rohingya’s have tried to fly off from the refugee camps based in Myanmar. They are not legally recognized under Myanmar’s 1982 citizenship law, restricting them to have access to basic services and freedom of movement.

Aung Kyaw Moe said that the imprisonment of less than 18 year age is a clear violation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, “the international community must take more concrete actions to stop the atrocities, particularly ASEAN countries like Indonesia and Malaysia which are heavily impacted by the attempted departure of the Rohingya”.

In the past month, three boats having more than 150 Rohingya have reached Indonesian shores, in which one boat carrying 200 Rohingya women and children majority, another having 150 Rohingya, and another boat carrying 180 Rohingya refugees.
