Dominica: On the first day of the first Test match against the West Indies at Windsor Park on Wednesday, India's Rohit Sharma and youthful opener Yashasvi Jaiswal established the groundwork for a significant score.

India managed to post a total of 80/0 at the end of Day 1, with Rohit and Jaiswal both remaining unbeaten at the crease with individual scores of 30(65)* and 40(73)*.

Even though Rohit received a few early LBW yells, India's opening stand held up well in the third session. Yashasvi Jaiswal had some time to get going, but as soon as he became comfortable with the pitch conditions, he began to confidently take on the bowlers.

With a skillfully performed shot that found the barrier for a four, he opened his account. He attempted to hit the boundary again with a subsequent shot, but the fielder stopped him from claiming consecutive boundaries.

On the other side, Rohit appeared assured during the most of the third session with his shot selection and defensive strategy. On the other side, West Indies bowlers had trouble maintaining consistency in their line and length. This was made clear when the umpire's decision to reject their review for an LBW appeal against Rohit Sharma.

Alick Athanaze took the fight to the Indian bowlers early in the game for the home team. He took his time on the crease before launching his counterattack. Athanaze maintained his position with his outstanding defensive style as Shardul Thakur opened the second session with a debut over.

With a magnificent cover drive off Jadeja's overpitch ball in the following over, which landed just outside the off stumps, he nevertheless made his intentions clear. Joshua Da Silva continued to struggle against the spin onslaught on the other end. In Jadeja's second over of the session, he made an attempt to push for a single, but the attacking field layout didn't allow him to do so.

He eventually failed to defeat the spinner because he became confused. The ball landed short and had a slight extra bounce before gliding off his gloves and landing directly in Ishan Kishan's hands.

Athanaze persisted in setting boundaries in an effort to lead his team to a decent result. In order to keep the hosts in the fight, he teamed up with Jason Holder. The Caribbean team was once more put under strain after two consecutive first overs were bowled. His attempts to hit the fence remarkably resembled those of former WI captain Brian Lara.
