The one characteristic of Rohit Sharma that has come to the fore more than anything else since he assumed the position of captain is his facial expressions on the pitch. Every time the camera pans to the Indian captain, a spectrum of emotions is visible. While serving as the team's captain, Virat Kohli was equally as entertaining when it came to his reactions. However, Rohit seems to have a unique way of handling any circumstance, whether it be venting his annoyance at an umpire or engaging in the sporadic game of charades with Dinesh Karthik.

Rohit was once again passionate during the second T20I between India and South Africa. David Miller and Quinton de Kock went ballistic in an effort to lead the team across the finish line and tie the series for South Africa even though they fell short of India's aim. The 19th was given to Arshdeep Singh with 63 needed off of two overs, the always-dreadful over from India's standpoint. The left-arm fast did not get off to the best start in the penultimate over of the game as he overstepped on the opening ball. He made sure that South Africa only scored a single after the free-hit, but the following ball they gave up a six.

Arshdeep followed Miller to the next ball as the tension grew. Arshdeep went outside off as Miller attempted to scoop the ball and walked over, which led to the umpire calling it wide. However, as soon as Virender Sharma extended his arms, Rohit went over and made an attempt to talk with the official while looking plainly unimpressed. The India captain and Rohit were seen arguing about where the ball had pitched while pointing toward the striker's end. However, things were swiftly fixed when the umpire was seen slapping the captain on the shoulders before they both burst out laughing.

This was not the first instance in which Rohit and umpire Sharma disagreed on a call. Rohit was upset with the umpire earlier in the game when Sharma's declaration of a wide was made. Actually, Rohit was quite upset by the choice and mockingly signalled for a DRS. Rohit attempted to flick the ball down to the fine leg, but the Ultra Edge also revealed that there was practically no connection between the bat and the ball.
