New Delhi: Rupinder Singh Suri, a senior advocate and Additional Solicitor General, died on Monday, sources said. He had been experiencing Covid-related difficulties for almost a week, according to sources. Suri is survived by his wife Gurvinder and advocate daughters Suruchi and Simar.
Suri was also the past president of the Supreme Court Bar Association, and Chief Justice N.V. Ramana expressed his condolences on his death.
From 1987 to 2003, he served as the Standing Counsel for Punjab before the Supreme Court of India, representing the state in all legal matters, including constitutional disputes, river water disputes with other riparian states, service, excise, land acquisition, criminal, narcotics, terrorist, and commercial matters. In 2009, the Supreme Court of India appointed him as a Senior Advocate in honour of his unique contributions and experience.
In December 2012, the Ministry of Law and Justice designated him as Special Counsel to represent the Government of India before the Supreme Court of India.
