CHENNAI: The planned route march for November 6 has been postponed by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The Popular Front of India's ban and the potential for inter-communal violence led to the postponement of the RSS's Vijayadashami route march from October 2 to November 6.

In a press release, Prof. Vanniyarajan, the head of the RSS South Zone, said: "For the past 97 years, RSS has organised and conducted its route marches across the country. All of the states in the union, including Tamil Nadu, have seen the route marches go place peacefully." "The Madras High Court in its order yesterday permitted to perform the route march in 44 locations instead of the 50 that was demanded by the RSS, restricted the route march to be held either indoors or in an auditorium or within four walls of a complex," he said.  The RSS said that it will file an appeal against the ruling party and would cancel the November 6 route march.

The Madras High Court's Justice Iliyantharajan had authorised the route march to take place at 44 locations rather than 50.
He even criticised the police for not allowing the route march earlier on, claiming racial issues.

Following a significant political drive by the BJP to gain ground in Tamil Nadu, where it still lacks a strong base, the RSS march takes significance.

On October 2, in conjunction with Vijayadashami, India's 75th anniversary of independence, and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar's 125th birthday, the RSS had planned to stage route marches in 50 locations throughout Tamil Nadu. The choice sparked a political uproar as numerous DMK allies asked for permission to conduct a protest for racial peace on the same day.
