THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: M. V. Govindan, the chief secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), alleged on Sunday that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) was attempting to topple the state government.

On Sunday, Govindan said, "RSS was trying to destabilise the state governmentand the new move of the governor over universities is part of this." Govindan was speaking at a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram.

Govindan added that the uncertainty caused by the governor Arif Mohammad Khan's protracted inaction on bills.

"The Governor's obstruction of several measures and his attempts to remove the bulk of vice-chancellors from the state have prompted the administration to seek legal advice. The governor cannot keep the bills on his desk for a long period. To combat this uncertainty, we will take every necessary action " he said.

He predicted that the party, together with other left-leaning parties, would organise a sizable protest in front of Raj Bhavan on November 15.

"Tiruchi Siva, an MP, will take part in the demonstration. On November 15, Sitaram Yechury, the general secretary of the party, will launch the demonstration "Added he.

The CPI (M) had earlier organised a protest march to Thiruvananthapuram's general post office on October 26 in response to state governor Arif Mohammad Khan's directive calling for the resignation of the vice-chancellors of nine state universities.

The governor called on the vice-chancellors of the University of Kerala, the Mahatma Gandhi University, the Cochin University of Science and Technology, the Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies, the University of Kannur, the APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University, the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, the University of Calicut, and the Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University to resign.

Earlier, M V Govindan, the state secretary for the CPI-M, had claimed that the governor was an RSS supporter.
Govindan had said, "the Governor was appointed as Chancellor according to the law and if the law is invalid, there would be no chancellor or governor, either. It is embarrassing that Governor thinks that he has the power of a king and whatever he is doing is right."
