Mumbai:  A court in Maharashtra's capital Mumbai has convicted nine businessmen in a case related to playing rummy. The nine businessmen have been convicted by a Mumbai court under the Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act. The businessman convicted in the case has been sentenced to six months in jail. Along with this, the court has also imposed a fine of two thousand rupees on all of them.

The court of Metropolitan Magistrate AV Kulkarni gave the verdict. The metropolitan magistrate pronounced the sentence while dismissing the demand for the release of the convicts for their good behaviour. It is being told that this case is from 2011. At that time, the police had received information about some people playing rummy at the Hotel Taj President. Based on the information, the police raided the hotel and recovered Rs 3.25 lakh.
 
Police arrested nine businessmen from the spot. The arrested accused, Ashwin Bhansali and Sandeep Chalke, had stayed on the sixth floor of the hotel on August 27, 2011. Businessmen Naresh Yeldy, Suresh Sabula, Ketan Shah, Shravan Jain, Ramesh Rathore, Manoj Jasani and Raj Tore had also come to play Rummy. Vasant Dhoble, assistant commissioner of police (ACP), who led the police raid at that time, has now retired.
