On Monday, the rupee fell three paise to 74.48 provisionally against the US dollar, despite a flat trend in the domestic equity market. However, forex brokers noted that the rupee's loss was limited by reduced crude prices on the international market.

The local currency opened at 74.38 versus the US dollar on the interbank forex market, with an intra-day high of 74.31 and a low of 74.49. It eventually settled at 74.48 against the US dollar, a mere 3 paise down than its previous closing. The dollar index, which measures the value of the dollar against a basket of six currencies, fell 0.06 to 95.06. Meanwhile, the global oil benchmark, Brent crude futures, slid 1.30 percent to USD 81.10 a barrel.

On the domestic stock market front, the BSE Sensex rose 32.02 points, or 0.05 percent, to 60,718.71, while the broader NSE Nifty rose 6.70 points, or 0.04 percent, to 18,109.45.  According to exchange data, foreign institutional investors were net purchasers in the capital market on Friday, purchasing shares worth Rs 511.10 crore.
