Ukraine's State Emergency Service stated Russia shelled the northern city of Chernihiv all night, according to media reports. Blasts were also reported before morning in Kiev, Ukraine's capital, and Kharkiv, the country's second-largest city, according to Ukrainian officials.

The city of Chernihiv was bombarded with shells all night, yet only one person was injured. According to the Ukrainian State Emergency Service, the artillery attack began around at 2:00 a.m. According to the service, missiles hit a kindergarten facility, creating a fire. A shop in a central market, as well as a five-story residential apartment structure, were also hit. According to reports in the media, one woman was slightly hurt.

Overnight, there were more explosions reported in Kiev and other cities around Ukraine. Ukraine claimed that its forces successfully repulsed multiple attempts by Russian troops attempting to storm the capital's outskirts. In a statement, Commander of the Armed Forces Colonel General Alexander Syrsky remarked, "We proved that we can protect our house against uninvited guests."

Explosions were also reported in Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, which was the site of severe combat on Sunday after Ukrainian forces recaptured it from Russian forces.  President Zelensky has said that the next 24 hours - the fifth day of the Russian assault - will be "crucial" for Ukraine. In the wake of harsh sanctions, the Russian rouble hit a new low against the dollar, prompting analysts to warn of a possible bank run. According to the report, the EU is taking the unprecedented step of sending arms to Ukraine.
