Kyiv: Russia has now extended a helping hand to evacuate Indians stranded in Ukraine amid the fierce war. Russia has announced that it will make arrangements to evacuate Indian students and other foreign nationals stranded in Ukraine. 130 buses have also been arranged for this purpose. The buses will evacuate people from Ukraine's Kharkiv and Sumi region and take them to Russia's Belgorod area. From here, citizens will be transported to their country.
According to the Russian agency Tass, the stay of foreign nationals from Ukraine has now been arranged at the checkpoint on the border. They will also be provided food and medical arrangements here. From here they will be transported to their country by flight. On March 2, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke to PM Narendra Modi. During this time, there were also talks about the safe evacuation of Indian nationals from Ukraine. Earlier on March 1, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla had informed that 8,000 Indians were currently stranded in Ukraine. Most of them are students.
On March 2, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi had said that India was in touch with Russia and Ukraine as well as five other countries for the safe return of its citizens. Indian nationals will also be brought back through Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Moldova bordering Ukraine.
