A devastating wave of Russian missile attacks has left a toll of at least 18 dead and over 130 injured in Ukraine. The assault targeted major Ukrainian cities, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealing that around 40 missiles of different types were launched.

In a solemn evening address, Zelenskyy disclosed that more than 200 sites were hit, including 139 homes. The casualties include residents of a regular high-rise apartment building, emphasizing the impact on ordinary people. Zelenskyy pledged a robust response, vowing that the repercussions of the Russian war would be felt on Russian soil.

Kharkiv, in the northeast, bore the brunt of three waves of attacks, while the capital Kyiv and central Ukraine also experienced strikes. The southern region of Kherson faced persistent shelling.

Oleksandra Terekhovich, a resident of Kharkiv, described the terrifying moment when explosions rocked her surroundings. The relentless assaults have left Ukrainians living in constant fear, with the 1,500km front line showing little movement as soldiers engage in trench and artillery warfare.

In response to the attacks, President Zelenskyy declared, “The Russian war will inevitably be brought back home, back to where this evil came from, where it must be quelled.”

Analysts suggest that Russia had amassed missiles in preparation for this campaign, aiming to test the vulnerabilities of Ukraine's air defenses. The situation remains tense as Ukrainians anxiously await further developments.
