New Delhi: The men's and women's Indian teams at the Hangzhou-hosted Asian Games 2023 have been revealed.

The women's cricket part of the Olympics will take place over ten days, from September 19 to September 28, and will use the shortest international format, Twenty20. The Pingfeng Cricket Field at Zhejiang University of Technology will host the games.

The men's Indian team will be captained by Ruturaj Gaikwad in the forthcoming Asian Games T20 competition. The 15-person squad also includes Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, and Jitesh Sharma, who have all yet to receive a T20 international cap.

The men's ODI World Cup is set to start in India on October 5, two days before the Asian Games cricket competition concludes. In contrast, the BCCI has picked a women's squad that is fully prepared for the competition in Hangzhou.

Only six players—Jaiswal, Tilak, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar, and Avesh Khan—were chosen for the Asian Games roster from the T20I squad for the Caribbean and USA tour.

Rinku, a batter from Uttar Pradesh who had lit up the IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders with his power and finishing prowess, was notable in that this was his first call-up to the Indian team. Jitesh, a finisher for Vidarbha and Punjab Kings, was included in the squad despite not being selected for the T20Is in the Caribbean and USA. Washington Sundar, an all-around player, and Rahul Tripathi, a teammate from Sunrisers Hyderabad, have the chance to once more demonstrate their prowess in the T20 format.

Both players participated in the domestic T20I series against New Zealand in February of this year, but they were not included in the squad for the following T20Is against the West Indies. They have played in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) and MPL (Maharashtra Premier League) and other T20 tournaments recently, thus they have been eating only T20 cricket.

There was no room for Prithvi Shaw, who was selected for the West Zone team for the Deodhar Trophy and would be traveling to the UK to play for Northamptonshire afterward.

Washington and Bishnoi will join left-arm spinner Shahbaz Ahmed of Bengal and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the spin attack. The lone seam bowling all-rounder in the team is Shivam Dube, despite the fact that he didn't bowl a single ball for the Chennai Super Kings during the IPL 2023.

Dube suffered a finger injury playing defense against the Mumbai Indians in May and continued to play in the IPL playoffs. In order to be chosen in both this squad and the West Zone squad for the Deodhar Trophy, he has now fully recovered.

Venkatesh Iyer was on the list of reserve players, along with B, but was not selected for the Asian Games squad. Sai Sudharsan made headlines after scoring 96 runs for Gujarat Titans versus CSK in just 47 balls in the IPL final of 2023. R Sai Kishore, a veteran net bowler for the Indian teams, was another one of the backup athletes. After Jitesh, Punjab's Prabhsimran Singh was chosen as the backup keeper.

In 2010 and 2014, cricket was a component of the Asian Games twice, although India missed out on those competitions. The cricket competition in Hangzhou will use the same T20 format as in the 2010 and 2014 tournaments. The Asian Games' men's cricket competition will take place from September 28 until October 8.
