New Delhi: India made a big announcement on the second day of the Conference of the Counter Terrorism Committee (CTC) of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). India will make a voluntary contribution of 5,00,000 dollars to this international forum to combat terrorism. This fund will be used to combat terrorism. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar announced this in his keynote speech.
During this, Jaishankar said that terrorists are constantly becoming hi-tech and we also have to make full preparations to deal with them. India on Saturday called for coordinated global efforts to prevent possible misuse of new technologies like encrypted messaging and cryptocurrencies by "anti-social elements" and cautioned that social media platforms have become effective tools in the "toolkit" of terrorist groups.
Addressing a special meeting of the UNSC's Counter-Terrorism Committee, S Jaishankar said terror groups, their "ideological followers" and "lone wolf" have enhanced their capabilities by gaining access to these new technologies. Jaishankar also said that the UN's counter-terrorism sanctions regime is effective in order to warn countries that have turned terrorism into a "state-funded enterprise".
