NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar expressed his condolences on Monday for the deaths of five Indian students in a road accident in Toronto, Canada.
He took to Twitter to say: "Deeply saddened by the deaths of five Indian students in Canada... Heartfelt condolences to their loved ones… I Pray for those who have been hurt." The Indian Consulate General in Toronto will provide all required support and assistance in this respect, he said.
The Minister's tweet came in response to Indian High Commissioner to Canada Ajay Bisaria's late Sunday night post, in which he stated that two people were injured in the accident on Saturday, in addition to the five victims.
According to reports in the media, the tragedy occurred on a highway when a passenger van carrying the students collided with a tractor-trailer. Canadian police said, five Indian students were killed in a car accident in Canada's Ontario state.T he passenger van collided with a tractor trailer on Highway 401 in the Quinte West city of Southern Ontario. The victims were between the ages of 21 and 24. They were all students from the Greater Toronto and Montreal areas, according to the police.
