New Delhi: The Consultative Committee of India's Parliament on External Affairs is scheduled to meet on Thursday, despite the current Russian military intervention in Ukraine.
External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar is expected to brief the Committee members in the meeting tomorrow, according to sources.
This comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over a high-level conference to discuss attempts to repatriate Indians who have been stuck in Ukraine. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, and other top officials attended the meeting.
India sent the first tranche of humanitarian aid to Ukraine via Poland on Tuesday, according to Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla. Medicines, medical equipment, and other relief supplies were included in the shipment.
Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin recognized Ukraine's breakaway regions such as Donetsk and Luhansk, as independent entities escalating the ongoing worries between the two countries. Ukraine gained independence in 1991 after the disintegration of the Soviet Union.
