New Delhi: The Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court of India will from Tuesday start hearing a crucial issue in regards to the entrance of women to the well-known Lord Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala. The temple disallows the entry of women who have attained teenage years.
On October 13, 2017, a three-judge bench led by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra had referred the lawsuit to the five-judge Constitution Bench. The Bench had framed five questions to be considered about over by the Bench.
The Sabarimala temple locates in the Western Ghats. It is four km climbing from Pathanamthitta district’s Pamba. In the wake of darshan, a pilgrim is essential to climb 18 steps to the sanctum santorum. However, it takes them hours to go up those 18 steps because of the massive rush.Pathanamthitta district is about 100 km from Kerala’s capital Thiruvananthapuram. The temple is easily reached only on foot from Pamba.
