Mumbai: Sachin Waze was taken into custody by the Mumbai Police's crime branch on November 1 after a complaint was filed by builder-turned-hotelier Bimal Agrawal, in which former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh is also a defendant.

On Saturday, Sachin Waze was brought before a holiday court after his remand had expired. Police requested a seven-day extension of his detention for further investigation, which the court granted until November 13. Waze was arrested in March by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with the 'Antilia' bomb scare and the murder of businessman Mansukh Hiran.

Agrawal claimed that the accused extorted Rs 9 lakh from him in exchange for not raiding two bars and restaurants he co-owned, as well as forcing him to buy two smartphones worth Rs 2.92 lakh for them. According to police, the alleged incident occurred between January 2020 and March 2021. As a result, the six defendants were charged under Indian Penal Code sections 384 and 385 (both relating to extortion) and 34 (common intention).
