Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal, who put up a brave show in the recently concluded All England Championships, broke a piece of sad news for her fans on social media. Saina revealed that she was suffering through acute stomach pain throughout the tournament and is going to be admitted into a hospital for treatment. She also added that she won't be taking part in the upcoming Swiss Open.
Saina wrote on Twitter, “So some sad news .. was really going through acute stomach pain from last Monday.. managed to play few matches in All England with lot of pain ... and decided to skip swiss open and come back to India and find out the issue and I found out it’s Acute Gastroenteritis with mild pancreatitis and the doctors have recommended me to get admitted and hopefully I recover soon out of it.”
Saina was knocked out of All England Championships on Friday where she lost to World No.1 Tai Tzu Ying of Taiwan in the quarter-finals at the Birmingham Arena. Saina failed to go past her nemesis – who has now defeated the Hyderabadi shuttler in 13 straight matches. The ace shuttler has vowed to return to the court soon. The London Olympics bronze medallist is one of the most successful shuttlers in the country. She had a stellar 2018 bagging two elusive gold medals at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. She won gold in Women's singles and Mixed team events of the competition. She also bagged two bronze medals at the Asian Game and Asian Championships respectively last year.
Nehwal has not tasted major success in 2019 yet as she started the year with a semifinal finish at the Malaysia Masters where she lost to Spanish ace Carolina Marin. Saina was once again up against Marin in the final of the Indonesia Masters in January this year and was crowned champion after the Spaniard retired hurt due to injury.
