New Delhi: Indian cricket team's wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson has been ruled out of the team for the remaining two matches of the 3-match T20 series against Sri Lanka. He did not go from Mumbai to Pune with the team. The BCCI medical team scanned Sanju Samson on the afternoon of January 4, 2023. After this Sanju was instructed to rest and rehabilitation.
The All India Senior Selection Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has selected Jitesh Sharma as the replacement for Sanju Samson. Sanju Samson was hit while trying to take a catch at mid-off (inside the circle) on 3 January 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Team India is ahead 1-0 in this 3-match series. Team India won the first T20 match by just 2 runs.
According to the statement issued by BCCI Secretary Jai Shah, 'Sanju Samson has stayed back in Mumbai. He has been scanned in Mumbai. Jitesh Sharma will join the team in his place. Vidarbha's wicket-keeper batsman Jitesh Sharma will serve as cover for Ishan Kishan in the next two matches.' Jitesh Sharma is a part of the Punjab Kings co-owned by Preity Zinta in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
