Sarojini Naidu, known as 'Bharat Kokila', was born on this day. Sarojini Naidu was a famous poetess, freedom fighter and great speaker of her time. She was born on 13 February 1879 in Hyderabad, India and she became very famous. She used to talk about broken dreams, power, hope, life and death, pride, beauty, love, past, and future in her poems and she included so many emotions in her poems that people get emotional by reading.

Sarojini was a total of 8 siblings in which she was the eldest and one of her brothers Virendranath was a revolutionary and one brother Haridranath was a poet, storyteller, and artist. Sarojini Naidu was promising since childhood and she was proficient in many languages like Urdu, Telugu, English, Bangla, and Persian. She was intelligent since childhood and passed the examination of twelfth with very good marks at the young age of 12 years. She composed a poem called "Lady of the Lake" at the age of 13.

The name of her first collection of poems was "Golden Threshold". Sarojini's poem "Bird of Time" and "Broken Wing" made her a well-known poetess. In 1898, Sarojini Naidu married Dr. Govindarajulu Naidu and in 1914, Naidu met Gandhiji for the first time in England and was impressed by his thoughts and became devoted to the country. She then became the President of the Congress Session held in Kanpur in 1925 and went to South Africa as the representative of India in 1932 but she left the world due to a heart attack while working in her office in Lucknow on 2 March 1949.
