Dehradun: Rain wreaked havoc across the state on Saturday. More than 50 houses were hit by the debris. Former collector and secretary Dr R Rajesh Kumar was the first to get information about the disaster in the Sarkhet area of Maldevta, the worst-affected area. Two bridges were broken and more than 250 roads were closed due to debris. Due to this, 4 people died and 20 people were injured. In addition, 13 people are still missing.

The SDRF, which came into action on the news, rescued more than 500 persons. Four people were airlifted by helicopter to safer places. CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, Cabinet Minister Ganesh Joshi and many MLAs and officers reached out to take stock of the situation.  The maximum impact of the rain, which started at around 2 to 2.30 am, was in Maldevta, the border area of Dehradun and New Tehri. There was a cloudburst-like situation here. Several houses were uprooted in Maldevta, Sarkhet, Timli, Mansinghwala, Bhainswara, Serki, Chamroli.

Three deaths and five missings were reported in the Tehri district. At the same time, 8 people have gone missing in the Dehradun district, while 20 are reported to be injured. A woman has died in the Pauri district. Due to this, electricity and water lines have also been damaged in many areas. A villager from Sarkhet called at 2.30 am and said that if the people of the village did not get immediate help, everything would be destroyed. He immediately informed the ADM and the District Disaster Management Officer. Then, the teams swung into action. NDRF, SDRF and policemen reached the spot under the leadership of administrative officers including Collector Sonika.
