In February 2017, 9 elephants were brought from Karnataka to Corbett Park, from which the elephant named Kanchambha was pregnant at that time. Pregnant Hathini gave birth to a male elephant at the Kalagarh Elephant Camp on August 2, 2018. After this the Corbett administration named Hathini's child Sawan. In 2019, the Corbett administration celebrated his first birthday with pomp.
