New Delhi: The Supreme Court refused to entertain Punjab BJP leader Jagjit Singh's plea seeking to transfer the investigation in the Sidhu Moose Wala murder case to the CBI.

Justices Ajay Rastogi and Abhay S. Oka's bench further stated that they disapprove of the practise of politicising such situations and that it should not be done. The Court said, however, that it must operate transparently for all parties.

The hearing on another petition by accused Lawrence Bishnoi's father contesting the transit remand to Punjab police was postponed to July 18 and the Punjab state was requested to file a response to the petition.  Senior attorney AM Singhvi represented Punjab, while senior attorney Vikram Chaudhri represented the mobster Lawrence Bishnoi's father.

On June 14, the Delhi Patiala House Court approved both the Punjab Police's request for transit and the arrest of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi in connection with the murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala. The court further ordered Punjab Police to make sure that Lawrence Bishnoi's medical checkup followed all applicable laws and regulations before he left Delhi and before he appeared before the relevant CJM, Mansa, Punjab court.

In granting the Punjab Police's requests, the Delhi court had previously stated that "the applicant Investigation Officer/SP Dharamveer Singh and the investigating agency were directed to take all the appropriate measures for safety and security of the accused Lawrence Bishnoi during transit until production of the accused Lawrence Bishnoi before the concerned Court at Mansa, Punjab."
