Kanwar Yatra 2024: In preparation for the Kanwar Yatra 2024, several districts in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand have announced school closures. District Magistrate Arvind Mallapa has directed that all schools and colleges in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, will be shut from July 26 to August 2, 2024. This includes primary, upper primary, secondary, CBSE, ICSE board-recognized schools, madrasas, degree colleges, DIETs, and technical institutes.

Regional Closures and Adjustments

The closure extends to other districts as well. Schools in Saharanpur and Meerut will also be closed from July 26 to August 2. Hapur's District Magistrate Prerna Sharma explained, "All government and private schools will be closed during this period to facilitate smooth travel for everyone."

In Uttarakhand, Haridwar has announced a similar measure. Schools from classes 1 to 12 and Anganwadi centers will be closed from July 27 to August 2 due to the Kanwar fair.

Modifications in Other Areas

To minimize disruptions, some cities are adjusting their school schedules. In Varanasi, Indore, and Ujjain, schools will be closed on Mondays and will hold classes on Sundays during the yatra season.

Traffic and Security Measures

The Kanwar Yatra, running from July 22 to August 6, 2024, has prompted increased police surveillance on major routes to ensure the safety of pilgrims. Delhi police have issued a traffic advisory in light of the yatra, but no school closures have been announced for the capital city.
