CHENNAI: Due to the likelihood of heavy rain, the Tamil Nadu school education department has cancelled classes for Friday and Saturday in Chennai and five other districts.

Following the IMD's forecast of heavy rainfall, holidays have been issued for educational institutions in the districts of Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Vellore, and Ranipet.

\Further, the Ranipet, Tiruvallur, and Kancheepuram districts have received a red alert from the weather service for November 11. On November 12, Dindigul, Theni, and The Nilgiris districts received a red alert. In the coming 24 hours, there will be a low-pressure region over the Bay of Bengal.

On November 11 and 12, some areas in these districts are likely to see heavy to extremely heavy rains.
The next 48 hours are expected to bring thunderstorms, lightning, and very heavy rain to Chennai city and the surrounding locations. The city will be on an orange warning for the following 48 hours. Several suburbs of Chennai such as Iyyappanthangal, Porur and Mangad are inundated with water following the release of water from Chembarambakkam lake.

Kancheepuram district officials stated that because heavy rain is anticipated, pumping could not be done to empty out water but that water would finally flow out.

"The low pressure area in the southwest Bay of Bengal, off the coast of Sri Lanka, continues to be accompanied by cyclonic circulation that reaches the mid-troposphere. Over the following 24 hours, it's likely to become more noticeable "IMD said.
