New Delhi: The Lucknow police has now included a sedition section against senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Rajya Sabha member and Sanjay Singh in charge of the party's Uttar Pradesh unit. Section 124-A (sedition) of IPC has been added to the FIR lodged at Hazratganj police station on September 2, a senior police official said. This was confirmed by SHO Anjani Kumar Pandey of Hazratganj.
The notice issued by the police says, "The case against you is registered under section 153 A/242/2020 of IPC. 153 B/2,505:1::B:/505:2:/468/469/124A/124 120 B & 66 C/min Under the 66D IT Act, an inquiry is being conducted into the police station Hazantganj Lucknow, which is a cognizable and non-bailable offence, about which facts in his favour are being discussed. Be sure to appear before the court on September 20 at 11 am to produce archival proof. If you are not present in time, you will be punished."
The police complaint, based on which fir was lodged, states that "A mobile number was being shared on a large scale on September 1. The investigation revealed that pre-recorded calls were being made to a certain number of people, including things that could divide communities. An interactive voice response (IVR) system was installed on this phone number. This work of an unknown person is going to divide communities and disturb harmony in society."
